The WCA claims that the new guidelines sent to players are inconsistent with the 2024 ICC agreement. According to the WCA, the new regulations are more controlling and undermine player interests. The ICC responded that the 2024 agreement only applied to eight national boards: Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, Ireland, Netherlands, and Scotland.
WCA’s CEO, Tom Moffat, stated that at least eight key differences exist between the old and new agreements, including media and content rights, video recording in dressing rooms, access to dressing rooms, collection of biological data, licensing, NIL rights, player contracts, and dispute resolution procedures. The WCA claims the previous agreement ensured players’ consent and discussion rights, which are no longer required under the new policy.
This dispute has reignited debates about player rights and governance in global cricket.
