A case has been filed over the incident of surrounding and vandalizing the vehicle of Jamaat-e-Islami Member of Parliament Masum Mostafa in Purbadhala upazila of Netrokona. Nine people have been arrested so far.

The case was filed late Friday night by MP’s personal assistant Md. Al Amin at Purbadhala Police Station. BNP leader Md. Abu Taher Talukder has been named as the main accused along with 60 others. Additionally, 50–60 unknown individuals have also been accused.

Police said among the arrested, one is named in the FIR while others are suspects. They are being prepared to be sent to court, and operations are ongoing to arrest remaining accused.

According to the incident description, after laying the foundation stone of a madrasa, MP Masum Mostafa was returning to the upazila headquarters. On the way, he stopped at a filling station in Atkapara area on the Shyamganj–Birishiri road for fuel and went inside a room to pray.

At that time, a group of youths arrived on motorcycles, created chaos, and vandalized his vehicle. He was allegedly held hostage for a while, and police struggled to control the situation. Later, additional police arrived and rescued him safely.

The MP alleged that BNP leaders and activists carried out the attack with a plan and it may have been an attempt on his life.

BNP leader Abu Taher Talukder denied the allegations, saying he was in Dhaka at the time and claimed he was falsely implicated.

Police said the matter is under investigation and legal action will be taken.
