National Youth Shakti announces new central committee, leadership goes to Tarikul–Farhad

The new central committee of National Youth Shakti, the youth wing of National Citizen Party (NCP), has been announced. In the newly declared committee, Supreme Court lawyer Tarikul Islam has been appointed president and engineer Farhad Sohel as general secretary.

The partial seven-member committee was announced on Saturday at a coordination meeting held at Rupayan Trade Center restaurant in Banglamotor, Dhaka.

NCP member secretary Akhtar Hossain said that leadership was finalized through council and officially approved by the party. He also said that a full committee will be announced soon.

In the new committee, Md. Tuhin Mahmud and Khaled Mahmud Mostafa were appointed senior vice presidents, Kajee Ayesha Ahmed as senior joint general secretary, Rifat Rashid as organizational secretary, and Yasin Arafat as senior assistant organizational secretary.

Newly elected president Tarikul Islam is known as one of the coordinators of the July movement. He is a former student of Dhaka University law department and currently works as a lawyer at the Supreme Court. General secretary Farhad Sohel is an engineer and previously held important positions in the organization.

Organizational secretary Rifat Rashid was also involved in the anti-discrimination student movement leadership and later joined NCP.

The meeting stated that the leadership was finalized according to decisions of the 10th general council of National Youth Shakti. Previously, Tarikul Islam served as convener and Jahidul Islam as member secretary of the first committee.

Later, after several leaders joined NCP in a new political process, changes occurred in the internal leadership structure, leading to this new committee announcement.
