Staff Report: PNN
The question paper for the 50th BCS preliminary examination under the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) was found to contain a large number of spelling errors. According to The Daily Campus, at least 177 spelling mistakes were identified, surprising both candidates and the general public. The exam was held on Friday (30 January) from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Errors include:

  • আচরণ written as ‘আচরন’

  • পরিগণিত as ‘পরিগনিত’

  • গবেষণা as ‘গবেষনা’

  • সাধারণ as ‘সাধারন’

  • ধারণা as ‘ধারনা’

  • জনগণ as ‘জনগন’

  • উদাহরণ as ‘উদাহরন’

  • সম্প্রসারণ as ‘সম্প্রসারন’

  • বহুমুখীকরণ as ‘বহুমুখীকরন’

  • নিয়ন্ত্রণ as ‘নিয়ন্ত্রন’

  • অংশগ্রহণ as ‘অংশগ্রহন’

Additionally, the names of ancient poet Bhushukupa and rural poet Jasimuddin were incorrectly written as ‘ভুসুরুপা’ and ‘জসীমউদ্দীন’ respectively.

A BCS candidate told The Daily Campus, “Seeing so many spelling mistakes in the question paper left me truly astonished. For a test where candidates are expected to know correct spelling, this is embarrassing.”

PSC Chairman Prof. Dr. Mobashwer Monem said, “I have not seen the paper yet. But if such complaints exist, they will be verified.” He added that the incorrect use of dental-n (দন্ত্য-ণ) instead of retroflex-n (মূর্ধন্য-ণ) should have been avoided.

Experts warn that spelling mistakes in this highly competitive exam can affect candidates’ morale and the quality of the test. They hope PSC will pay closer attention in future preparation and verification processes to avoid such errors.
