Two dealers fined for storing LPG illegally in Manikchhari residential area

In Manikchhari upazila of Khagrachhari, two gas dealers were fined by a mobile court for illegally storing LPG cylinders in a residential area. The operation was conducted late Thursday (8 January) at 11:30 PM in Ashtyapara and Bordolu areas based on confidential information.

The investigation revealed that the dealers were storing a large number of LPG cylinders near residential houses without proper safety measures, posing a severe risk to local residents.

The mobile court fined Md. Mamun, owner of Minha Traders, 10,000 taka for illegally storing gas in Ashtyapara. Similarly, Habibur Rahman, owner of M/s Hafiza Traders, was fined 5,000 taka for the same offense in Bordolu.

The court noted that the dealers were operating their warehouses without adhering to government regulations regarding explosive materials, which could lead to major accidents at any time.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tahmina Afroze Bhuiya stated that storing LPG cylinders in residential areas is extremely dangerous for public safety, and the concerned parties have been instructed to remove all illegal warehouses immediately. She added that stricter measures will be taken against such violations in the future. The district administration has also said that regular operations will continue across upazilas to prevent illegal gas storage and warehouses.
