Suspect Arrested in Akhuara for Rape and Murder of Disabled Teenager

Police in Akhuara, Brahmanbaria, have arrested Md. Torikul Islam Tushar (21) on charges of raping and murdering a 15-year-old disabled girl. Akhuara Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Chomiuddin confirmed the teenager's death around 12 PM on Tuesday (July 8).

The arrested individual, Torikul Islam Tushar, is the son of Md. Selim Mia from Gazaria village, Palash Thana, Narsingdi district.

According to multiple local sources, on Monday afternoon, Torikul Islam Tushar allegedly raped the 15-year-old disabled girl at a pond ghat near the Khormpur Kella Shah (RA) Mazar area in Akhuara. Upon hearing the girl's screams, locals rushed to the scene and alerted the police. Initially, police and members of the Mazar management committee attempted to mediate the situation. However, the victim passed away around 8 PM, and police recovered her body and took it to the police station at 11 PM.

Following the incident, Rostom Kamran Khadem, a senior member of the Mazar management committee, filed a case at Akhuara Police Station, alleging rape and murder. Based on the case, police swiftly arrested the accused, Torikul Islam Tushar.

Rafiqul Islam Khadem Mintu, General Secretary of the Mazar committee, stated that while Torikul Islam's behavior and speech seemed incoherent, he has confessed to the rape.

Akhuara Police Station's OC Chomiuddin said, "A case has been filed in this incident. In preliminary interrogation, the accused youth has confessed to the rape. His behavior appears abnormal."

He added, "The rape will become clearer after the victim's body undergoes a post-mortem examination. The accused will be presented in court."
