Two killed, 3 injured in bus–auto-rickshaw collision in Purbadhala, Netrokona

Two people were killed and at least three others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Purbadhala upazila of Netrokona.

The accident occurred on Saturday (May 2) around 8:00 AM in the Ilashpur area near the Fire Service office on the Shyamganj–Birishiri highway.

Among the deceased, one has been identified as Aynal Haque (57), a resident of South Kaldoar village in the upazila. The identity of the other deceased person (approximately 50 years old) has not yet been confirmed.

According to police and local sources, a bus named “Allah Dan” traveling from Durgapur to Mymensingh collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that Aynal Haque died on the spot.

Later, another critically injured unidentified person died after being taken to the hospital.

The injured three are Molla Mia (45), Dr. Sara Tabassum Urmi, and Monir Hossain (23). They were rescued and admitted to Purbadhala Upazila Health Complex, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Purbadhala Police Station said that police reached the scene after receiving the news and recovered the bodies of the deceased. Efforts are underway to identify the other deceased person. It is also reported that the bus driver fled the scene after the accident.

Police said legal action is being prepared in this incident. Locals claim that frequent accidents occur on this highway due to reckless driving and speeding.
