A couple has been detained by local residents in Monpura, Bhola, over allegations that the husband was operating a sex trade by involving his wife. The couple was subsequently handed over to police. Two alleged customers and a motorcycle rider who were present at the scene managed to flee. Police later reported recovering 26 yaba tablets from the detained woman.

The couple was detained around 9:00 pm on Friday (November 6) from a bush near the sluice gate in the Old Hospital area of Hajirhat Union in the upazila. Local residents apprehended them and handed them over to police. On Saturday (November 7), they were sent to court after the completion of legal procedures.

The detained man has been identified as Mizan, a resident of Ward No. 6 of No. 3 Uttar Sakuchia Union in the upazila. His wife, identified by the pseudonym Rani Begum, is a resident of Ward No. 4 of No. 4 Dakshin Sakuchia Union. Locally, Mizan is known as 'Jatki Mizan'.

According to local sources, on Thursday night, Mizan travelled with his wife from the Banglabazar area of Uttar Sakuchia Union to the embankment near the sluice gate in the Old Hospital area of Hajirhat Union, with the assistance of a motorcycle rider. Allegations suggest that, through the motorcycle rider's mediation, he arranged a sexual encounter involving two men in exchange for Tk 5,000.

When local residents noticed the matter, the couple reportedly took shelter in a bush beside the sluice gate. Residents subsequently apprehended them from the spot and informed the police. However, the motorcycle rider and the two alleged customers managed to escape.

According to police, 26 yaba tablets were recovered from Rani Begum following the detention. However, the couple denied the allegations of possessing yaba. They claimed that financial hardship had forced them into the sex trade. They also alleged that the seized drugs did not belong to them and that a motorcycle rider named Majed had left the tablets in their possession before fleeing the scene.

Regarding the incident, Monpura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazaharul Islam said the detained husband and wife had been sent to court after the completion of the necessary legal procedures.

It was not immediately known whether any further legal action had been taken against the motorcycle rider and the two men allegedly involved in the incident.
