Police recovered the body of a female police constable named Meherunnesa Urmi (28) from a rented house in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali.
The body was recovered early Saturday (May 2) from the third floor of a building in West Badurtoli area under Tiakhali Union of the upazila.
The deceased Urmi was working as a constable at Kalapara Police Station. She was a resident of Indrapur village in Bauphal upazila and the wife of dismissed police member Mahibbur Rahman Bappy.

On Friday (May 1) late at night, Urmi’s husband contacted the police station and claimed that his wife had committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan in their room.
After receiving the information, police went to the scene and recovered the body early in the morning.
Kalapara Police Station OC Nazrul Islam said that the husband and children of Urmi have been taken to the police station after the incident. Arrangements have been made for the care of the two children.
The exact cause of death is under investigation and necessary legal action will be taken.
The incident has caused widespread sensation in the area. While some locals consider it suicide, others are demanding a proper investigation.
