The government has taken an initiative to bring major changes to the country’s academic calendar. According to the new plan, SSC and HSC examinations are expected to be completed by December, and results will be published quickly, said Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon.

In an interview with a private satellite television channel, the education minister said that under the new system, December will be considered the end of the academic year. All class tests, syllabus completion, and board exams are planned to be finished within this period.

He said that if exams are completed by December, admission activities for secondary level could begin in January. Similarly, higher secondary admission processes would also be completed quickly after result publication.

Under the new plan, students would complete SSC exams at around 16 years of age and HSC exams at around 18 years of age. The minister expressed hope that this would eliminate session jams in education.

He also said the government is working on a new curriculum and syllabus. If everything is completed on schedule, the new timetable may be implemented from 2027, depending on whether syllabus completion is possible in time.

The minister said, “We want to create a fixed academic calendar where the academic year ends in December and all activities are completed within a set timeframe.”

He added that the government aims to strengthen the education system through structured planning, ensuring timely exams, result publication, and admission processes.

The main goal of the initiative is to bring discipline to the education system, eliminate session jams, and ensure students complete their education on time.
