Students of Barisal University have expressed anger over the lack of visible action against Additional Superintendent of Police (ADC) Riaz Hossain (PPM) of Barisal Metro Zone, who has been accused of attacking students during the July movement.

They also held a human chain on campus protesting his continued position and demanding justice for those involved in the incident.

The protest took place on Saturday (May 2) at around 11:30 AM in front of the university main gate, with participation from students of various departments. They demanded a prompt and impartial investigation into the 2024 July–August movement attack and punishment for those responsible.

Bangla Department student Sazzad Hossain said excessive force was used against students during the movement. He alleged that ADC Riaz Hossain directly participated in baton charges and was involved in arresting and intimidating protesters.

He also claimed that cases and harassment were used to suppress the movement. Students expressed disappointment that the accused officer still remains in service after the incident.

They urged the Ministry of Home Affairs and senior police authorities to take immediate action, emphasizing that no one is above the law.

After the human chain, students submitted a memorandum to the Barisal Range DIG office demanding action against the accused officer.

Later, they attended a meeting at the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Barisal Range Police. The memorandum was received by Additional DIG (Administration and Finance) Dr. Md. Saifullah bin Anwar.

Students said they will announce stronger programs if their demands are not met and insisted on a fair and transparent investigation.
