PNN News Desk | Bagerhat:
On the final day of the 48-hour strike called by the All-Party United Unity Council demanding re-elections for the district’s four parliamentary constituencies, strict measures were observed in Morelganj Upazila. On Thursday, September 11, markets and shops across the municipality and 16 unions remained closed from morning. All educational institutions were also shut.

All types of vehicles traveling from Nabirshi and Cholmbaria bus stands toward Morelganj, Sharankhola, and Bagerhat were halted. Waterway transport was also suspended, causing significant difficulties for the general public.

Government offices in the Upazila also became inactive. The Upazila Executive Officer’s office and other government offices were closed, and the Upazila Election Office was locked.

Throughout the day, strike supporters engaged in protest activities, including burning tires, felling trees, and blocking roads in various areas. Led by BNP leader Kazi Khairuzzaman Shipon, protest rallies were held at Nabirshi Bus Stand, Pallimangal, Somaddarkhali, Tetulbaria, Amtala, and other locations. Additionally, the All-Party United Unity Council held a protest rally at Nabirshi Bus Stand.

Speakers at the rallies stated, “We will not accept the Election Commission’s unreasonable and illegal decisions. The movement will continue until re-election is announced for the four Bagerhat constituencies.”

Despite severe disruptions to daily life caused by the strike, participants showed great enthusiasm for the movement. They emphasized that it is not merely a political demand, but a struggle to restore the rights of the people of Bagerhat.
