No Need to Panic Over New Coronavirus Cases: Health Department Advises Caution and Preparedness

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has stated that there is no need to panic over the new coronavirus infections in the country at this time. However, they have emphasized the importance of following safety measures and health guidelines. As a precaution, the Ministry of Health has taken various steps and issued an 11-point directive to raise public awareness.

According to a DGHS statement, the coronavirus primarily spreads through coughing and sneezing, making it easy for the virus to transmit from an infected person to others. Therefore, everyone should regularly wear masks, wash hands frequently, and avoid crowded places to prevent infection.

Experts say the new variant poses the greatest risk to children, elderly people, and those suffering from chronic illnesses such as uncontrolled diabetes, heart disease, kidney and liver problems, cancer, and chronic respiratory conditions (COPD, asthma). Pregnant women are also considered vulnerable and need extra care from family and society.

The health department urges people not to ignore symptoms like fever, cough, headache, or neck pain and to seek medical advice promptly. If tested positive for COVID-19, patients should isolate at home and keep separate from family members. Proper mask usage is strongly recommended.

If symptoms worsen, such as difficulty breathing, decreased oxygen levels, severe cough, or weakness, immediate hospital care may be necessary—especially for those with pre-existing health conditions.

For expert medical advice at any time, the DGHS hotline ‘Swasthya Batayon’ can be reached at 16263.

Health experts advise that awareness, not panic, is the best defense against the coronavirus.
