Just hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met European leaders in London, Russia and Ukraine launched new deadly attacks against each other, further intensifying the ongoing war.
In Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, Russian drone and artillery strikes killed at least five people and injured 14 others, according to local officials.
In Odessa, Russian attacks damaged energy infrastructure, leaving more than 1,000 customers without electricity.
A fuel storage facility near the inactive Chernobyl nuclear site was also reportedly attacked.
Ukraine carried out drone strikes on Russian-controlled Crimea, killing a train assistant driver and injuring the driver.
Russian air defenses claimed to intercept drones in the Volgograd region, although debris caused a fire at a pumping station.
A loading complex in the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk was also set on fire following drone attacks.
The attacks occurred shortly after Zelensky urged direct ceasefire talks in London. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he sees no need for talks with Zelensky at this time.
Western leaders expressed support for peace efforts, but no progress toward a ceasefire has been achieved.
