Four people were killed and at least 30 others injured when a passenger bus lost control and fell into a roadside ditch in Sarail, Brahmanbaria. Several injured passengers are in critical condition and have been admitted to different hospitals.
The accident occurred around 12:30 PM on Monday in the Baishamura area of Shahbazpur under Sarail upazila on the Dhaka–Sylhet highway.
According to police and local sources, a bus of Diganta Paribahan was traveling from Madhabpur toward Brahmanbaria. Upon reaching Baishamura, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and overturn into a ditch, resulting in mass casualties.
Local residents rushed to rescue passengers immediately after the accident. Later, police and fire service teams arrived and transported the injured to various hospitals.
The deceased have been identified as Munshi Arsh Ali from Shahbazpur village in Sarail, child Alif, Mousumi Das from Paikpara area of Brahmanbaria Sadar, and Tonoy Kumar Majumder from Ibrahimpur village in Nabiganj upazila.
Authorities suspect that excessive speed or loss of control may have caused the accident, though an investigation is ongoing.
The Officer-in-Charge of Khatiata Highway Police Station, Abu Taher Dewan, confirmed the deaths and said that necessary steps are being taken for treatment of the injured and investigation of the accident.
