The National Citizen Party (NCP) Dhaka North city branch held a torch procession demanding speedy justice for rape and murder incidents, including the murder of a child in Pallabi, and protesting against all rape and murder cases.
The program began with a short rally at around 9 PM in front of the party’s central office in Banglamotor, Dhaka. Later, leaders and activists carried torches and marched from Banglamotor to Shahbagh, chanting slogans against rape and violence against women.
At the end of the procession, a rally was held where NCP senior joint convener and Dhaka North convener Ariful Islam Adib spoke. He said that repeated incidents of violence against women and children are alarming society. He added that if justice is not ensured for incidents like the Pallabi child murder, such crimes will increase further.
He also said that women are facing harassment and oppression at different levels of society and politics. He emphasized the need for social awareness and strict justice.
Dhaka North acting member secretary Sadiya Farzana also spoke at the rally, saying that a positive change in attitude toward women is needed and their dignity and security must be ensured in society.
The program was attended by Youth Shakti leader Touhidul Islam, joint convener Omar Faruk, Wahid Alam, Khaleda Akhter, Nur Amin Khan, Wahijjaman Suman, Rehena Akhter, Tahmina Sharmin, and activists from various levels of the party.
