Former minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dipu Moni has been granted interim bail in one murder case. At the same time, the High Court issued a rule asking why she should not be granted bail in six other cases.
The order was issued on Wednesday by a High Court bench comprising Justice Md. Khairul Alam and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher after hearing seven separate bail petitions.
According to court sources, she was granted interim bail in a murder case filed at Mohammadpur Police Station related to the death of a businessman during the July movement. Her lawyers argued that her name was not mentioned in the FIR and no specific allegations were made against her.
Senior lawyer Ramzan Ali Sikder argued for her bail, while Deputy Attorney General Md. Hemayet Ullah represented the state.
Her lawyers stated that apart from one case where bail was granted, the court issued a rule in six other cases, all related to murder allegations filed in different police stations in Dhaka.
Dipu Moni was arrested from the Baridhara area in August 2024 following a political changeover and has remained in custody since then.
Her lawyers claim she faces nearly 70 cases including murder, violence, and corruption allegations.
The High Court order means she has received bail in one case, while legal proceedings in other cases are still ongoing.
