Kidnapped individual rescued; three arrested with drugs and weapons in joint operation in Rangunia

In Rangunia Upazila, Chattogram, a joint operation by the armed forces and law enforcement rescued a kidnapped person and arrested three individuals with a significant quantity of drugs, domestic weapons, and cash.

According to army sources, the operation took place late Friday night (January 9) at Fakir Bari in Balughat, Pomra Union, Rangunia Upazila, following reports of a kidnapping. During the raid, Rubel (30), a kidnapped individual, was rescued alive.

Three people directly involved in the kidnapping were arrested: Shahed Hasan (35), son of Danu Member, Pomra Union; Obaidul Mostafa Sourav (31), son of Abdul Karim; and Md. Abdus Salam (22), son of Mozu Mia from Ward 9, Betagi Union.

During searches of their homes, authorities recovered 882 yaba tablets, approximately 3.1 kg of cannabis, various domestic weapons including knives, machetes, and hammers, as well as three passports, five smartphones, four button phones, and cash totaling BDT 105,890.

Army sources added that Obaidul Mostafa Sourav has been involved in drug trafficking in the area for a long time, and his mother, Rubina Akter, is also reportedly associated with the local drug trade, though she was not arrested during the operation.

Rangunia Model Police Station OC Md. Arman Hossain confirmed that cases have been filed against the arrested individuals under relevant laws, and they were sent to jail through the court.
