In Brahmanbaria, two police officers serving at Nabinagar Police Station—a Sub-Inspector (SI) and a Constable—have been temporarily suspended over allegations of accepting bribes. The suspended officers are SI Zahid Ahsan and Constable Abu Kausar. Police Superintendent Shah Mohammad Abdur Rauf confirmed the matter on Saturday (January 10) morning. Administrative action had already been taken against them the previous night.

Police sources revealed that on the morning of January 5, while patrolling at the Kanabari intersection on the Nabinagar-Salimganj road, the two officers stopped a pickup van. Allegedly, despite a large quantity of marijuana being found in the vehicle, they accepted financial favors and allowed it to go. The news sparked widespread discussion and criticism on social media.

Upon learning of the incident, the police higher authorities promptly initiated an investigation. Police Superintendent Abdur Rauf stated that considering the seriousness of the allegations, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nabinagar Police Station was instructed to submit an investigation report quickly.

OC Rafiqul Islam of Nabinagar Police Station said, “Two officers have been temporarily suspended over allegations of disciplinary misconduct. If the charges are proven after departmental investigation, final action will be taken against them according to regulations.” The district police reiterated a strict stance to ensure discipline and accountability within the force.
