Husband detained over allegation of killing housewife by slitting her throat in Madaripur

An allegation has emerged that a housewife was brutally murdered by slitting her throat in Abdur Rahman Bepari Kandi area of Kutubpur Union in Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur. Police have detained the victim’s husband in connection with the incident.

Police said that upon receiving information on Thursday morning, Shibchar police reached the scene and recovered the throat-slit body of the housewife from a residential house. The body was later sent to the Madaripur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. At the same time, the victim’s husband, Abul Mridha, was detained for questioning.

The deceased was identified as Rokeya Begum (55). She lived in the house with her husband Abul Mridha and their two sons, Ali Hossain and Mohammad Mia. According to local sources, all family members slept in the same room on Wednesday night. During preliminary interrogation, Abul Mridha reportedly confessed to killing his wife with a sharp weapon in the early morning. However, he did not provide a clear motive for the murder.

Police and army personnel visited the scene after the incident, which has caused widespread shock in the area. Some local residents claimed that the family had previously been involved in various criminal activities, though police said these claims are being verified.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibchar Police Station, Md. Shafiqul Islam, said that the body has been recovered and sent for autopsy and that the husband has been detained. The incident is being investigated seriously, and legal action is underway.
