Due to adverse weather, a fishing trawler from Patharghata in Barguna sank in the Bay of Bengal during a storm. Out of the 12 fishermen aboard, 9 have been rescued, while 3 remain missing. The rescued fishermen reported the incident on Thursday morning (July 10).
According to the fishermen, last Saturday the trawler named ‘FB Saikul,’ owned by Alamgir Khalifa of Khalifarhat area in Charduani Union of Patharghata Upazila, had gone to the sea for fishing. Due to the harsh weather, they decided to return to the shore. However, on the way back, the trawler was caught in rough waves and sank.
Trawler owner Alamgir Khalifa confirmed the incident, stating that the trawler had 12 fishermen on board. On Tuesday afternoon, while returning to the shore, the vessel was hit by turbulent waves causing the accident. Other fishermen at sea immediately assisted and rescued 9 men, but 3 remain missing, and rescue efforts are ongoing.
Senior Fisheries Officer Hasibul Haque Kalbela of Patharghata Upazila said, “I have been informed about the trawler sinking. Investigations and search operations are underway.”
Local authorities and the fishing community are working to find the missing fishermen and ensure their safe and swift rescue.
