Ex-Volunteers' Party Leader Sirajul Islam Sathi Arrested in Gazipur on Extortion Charges

Sirajul Islam Sathi, the recently expelled member secretary of the Tongi East Thana Volunteers' Party, has been arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Gazipur on allegations of extortion. A team from the Purbachal RAB Camp apprehended him following a tip-off during a raid in the Pubail area around 12 PM on Tuesday (July 8).

Sathi reportedly faces multiple complaints of extorting money from local businessmen and ordinary citizens. He was recently expelled from the party due to disciplinary breaches.

Major Ahnaf, Company Commander of RAB-1, Uttara, stated, "A team from the Purbachal RAB Camp conducted an operation in the Pubail area at 12 PM on Tuesday based on confidential information and arrested him. Legal proceedings against Sirajul Islam Sathi are underway. Further details will be disclosed later for the sake of the investigation."

Sheikh Mohammad Amirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pubail Police Station, commented, "We haven't officially received any information from RAB regarding the arrested individual. However, if a complaint is filed, we will investigate and take necessary action."

It's worth noting that on Sunday (July 6), four leaders of the Gazipur Metropolitan BNP were expelled from the party. This strict organizational action was taken against them for violating party discipline, demanding extortion, and engaging in activities contrary to the party's principles and ideals.

Advocate Md. Taiful Islam Tipu, BNP's Assistant Office Secretary, confirmed the decision in a press release signed on Sunday. The expelled leaders are: Rakib Uddin Sarkar Pappu, former joint convener of Gazipur Metropolitan BNP; Abdul Halim Molla of Gazipur Metropolitan Volunteers' Party; Ziaul Hasan Swapon (GS Swapon), former member of Gazipur Metropolitan BNP; and Sirajul Islam Sathi, member secretary of Tongi East Thana Volunteers' Party.
