The body of one of three Chittagong University (CU) Development Studies department students, who went missing while visiting Himchari sea beach in Cox's Bazar, has been recovered. The body of the student, K.M. Sadman Rahman (19), was found at the Himchari point on Tuesday morning (July 8). Two other students, Asif Ahmed and Aritra Hasan, remain missing.
The deceased student, K.M. Sadman Rahman, was the son of K.M. Anisur Rahman from Mirpur, Dhaka. Missing students Asif Ahmed and Aritra Hasan are both from Bogura. All three were residents of the university's Shaheed Md. Forhad Hossain residential hall.
Saïd Bin Kamal Chowdhury, Assistant Proctor and Assistant Professor of the Development Studies department at Chittagong University, confirmed the incident. He stated that four first-year students from the Development Studies department went to Cox's Bazar on their own initiative on Monday night. Local fishermen recovered the body of one student, while the other two are still missing. The university administration has contacted the Cox's Bazar police, and the families of the missing students have been informed. Additionally, several senior teachers from the university's Development Studies department have departed for Cox's Bazar.
Somnath Basu, Police Inspector of Himchari Investigation Center, said that the friends entered the rough sea together and were swept away by the strong current. While one body has surfaced, the other two are still missing. Police and rescue workers are present at the beach and are continuing efforts to locate the missing students.
