A Dhaka court today (July 7) imposed a travel ban on Mohammad Hazrat Ali, a retired chief engineer of the Power Development Board (PDB), as an investigation into allegations of illegal wealth accumulation continues.
The order was issued by Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Galib of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). This was confirmed by Mohammad Akhtarul Islam, ACC's Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer.
ACC Deputy Director Nazmul Islam filed the petition, requesting the travel restriction. He stated that Hazrat Ali is currently under investigation for allegedly acquiring illicit wealth through widespread corruption and irregularities during his tenure.
According to the petition, the ACC possesses credible information suggesting that Hazrat Ali might attempt to flee the country to evade legal proceedings. Therefore, preventing his departure is deemed essential to ensure a proper and uninterrupted investigation into the allegations.
The court accepted the ACC's petition and ordered that Mohammad Hazrat Ali be barred from leaving Bangladesh until further notice from the court.
