Staff Report: PNN
Bollywood actor Ranbir Singh is facing legal action over allegations of hurting Hindu religious sentiments. A case has been filed against him at Bengaluru High Grounds Police Station under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code. The case was filed by Bengaluru lawyer Prashant Methal.

The complaint alleges that Ranbir Singh made disrespectful remarks about the revered deity Chamundi Devi in Karnataka, which hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. The allegation specifically refers to a misrepresentation of Chamundi Devi.

According to the court documents, on November 28, 2025, at the closing ceremony of an international film festival in Goa, Ranbir Singh delivered a speech where he imitated a scene from the film Kantara: Chapter One. In that scene, Rishabh Shetty’s character depicts the appearance of Chamundi Devi. The complainant claims that Singh referred to Chamundi Devi as a “female ghost” while imitating the scene, which was highly offensive.

Lawyer Prashant Methal stated in the complaint that Chamundi Devi is considered a revered guardian goddess by people in coastal Karnataka and a symbol of divine feminine power, deeply worshiped by devotees. Portraying her as a ghost is an insult to religious beliefs and deeply hurts Hindu sentiments, he added.

The case has been sent to the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Bengaluru. The court has set April 8 for the hearing. Previously, on December 27, 2025, the same lawyer filed a personal complaint. Following that, on January 23 of this year, the court directed the police to register an FIR. Today, the case has been formally filed at the police station.
