Gopinathpur village in Hamirdi Union of Bhanga Upazila, Faridpur, has been engulfed in violence for two consecutive days. After the clash subsided on Sunday afternoon, the villagers clashed again on Monday morning with local weapons.

According to local sources, the confrontation lasted about an hour from 8 a.m., leaving at least 10 people injured. Both sides used homemade weapons, including shields, sticks, swords, and bricks. Some villagers even wore helmets and faced each other like a battlefield. Numerous houses and shops were vandalized and looted during the clashes.

Police and local influential figures arrived at the scene, bringing the situation somewhat under control. Both parties later agreed to stop the violence through a mutual pledge. Among the injured, a man named Mintu is in serious condition and admitted to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.

Eyewitnesses reported that the conflict began over a long-standing land dispute. Simon Matubber and Kuddus Matubber’s followers held a mediation meeting on Friday regarding the land but could not reach an agreement. A follow-up meeting scheduled for Sunday afternoon failed, leading both sides to take up homemade weapons. The first clash, which lasted from 3 p.m. to evening, left about 60 people injured.

Acting Officer-in-Charge of Bhanga Police Station, Ashraf Hossain, said, “Upon hearing about the second day’s clash, I immediately went to the scene with several respected local figures. Police intervention helped control the situation. Additional forces have been deployed in the area to prevent further incidents.”
