From corporate boardrooms to sports administration — Rubaba Daula’s inclusion completes the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) board.
Rubaba Daula, a well-known corporate figure and sports organizer, has joined the BCB board. The National Sports Council (NSC) officially nominated her as a councillor on Monday and sent a letter to the BCB. With this, the 25-member BCB board is now fully staffed.
Typically, two NSC-nominated councillors are on the BCB board. The first nomination after elections caused some controversy, particularly regarding Isfaq Ahsan’s political connections. After his resignation, Rubaba Daula was appointed to the position.
Rubaba Daula is one of Bangladesh’s most successful female executives in the corporate sector. She currently serves as Country Director for Oracle in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. Previously, she held senior leadership roles at Grameenphone and Airtel in the telecom sector.
Beyond corporate credentials, Rubaba has been closely involved in sports for many years. She served as President of the Bangladesh Badminton Federation from 2009 to 2015 and was also a board member of Special Olympics Bangladesh.
During her tenure at Grameenphone, she played a key role in the development of Bangladesh cricket. Under her leadership, Grameenphone was the main sponsor of the national team and collaborated with the BCB to establish the National Cricket Academy in Mirpur.
Rubaba Daula’s entry into the BCB is also seen as a positive symbol of female leadership. Experts believe her combined corporate and sports administration experience can bring new perspectives to the BCB’s policy-making and strategic development.
She is likely to attend today’s BCB board meeting. Joining her as the other NSC-nominated councillor is Yasir Mohammad Faisal Ashik.
The impact of this new female leadership on the future decisions and direction of Bangladesh cricket will unfold over time.
