An allegation of an attack has been made on National Citizen Party (NCP) chief organizer Nasiruddin Patwari in Jhenaidah city. The incident occurred on Friday after Jumu’ah prayers in the Old DC Court area of the city. After the incident, tension spread across the city and NCP activists held protest rallies. Later, Nasiruddin Patwari, along with his supporters, took position at the district police station.
According to eyewitness accounts, Nasiruddin Patwari had gone to Jhenaidah in the morning to attend a program where leaders of various political parties were joining the NCP. He went to the District Collectorate Mosque to offer Friday prayers. After finishing prayers, while he was leaving the mosque, he spoke with Sahed Ahmed, the convener of Islami University Chhatra Dal. At that moment, suddenly several youths from behind threw eggs, creating a chaotic situation. The NCP claims that several of its leaders and activists were injured in the incident.
After the incident, NCP activists immediately brought out a protest rally. As tension spread in several important areas of the city, additional police were deployed.
Sahed Ahmed, convener of Islami University Chhatra Dal, claimed that Nasiruddin Patwari has been making objectionable remarks about senior BNP leaders in different districts. He said he went there only to talk about this issue. However, he denied any involvement of Chhatra Dal in the attack or egg throwing.
District Chhatra Dal general secretary Shahriar Rasel made a similar statement, saying that no activists of Chhatra Dal were involved in the incident.
On the other hand, Nasiruddin Patwari alleged that a powerful faction of the local BNP carried out the attack in a planned manner. He claimed that at least three to four of his activists were injured in the attack. He demanded justice for the incident and raised questions about the law and order situation.
Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman said that the situation is currently under control. Police have been deployed at various important points in the city. However, no written complaint has been filed so far regarding the incident.
