Malaysian law enforcement agencies have recently arrested 36 Bangladeshi nationals in a security operation. They are accused of involvement with an extremist organization.

Upon learning of the matter, the Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia immediately contacted the relevant Malaysian authorities. They have requested information regarding the identities of the arrested individuals and details of the allegations brought against them. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed this information in a press release today, Saturday (July 5).

The press release further stated that formal charges have already been filed against five of the arrested individuals in a Malaysian court. Investigations are ongoing for the remaining individuals, or the process of repatriating them has begun.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Government of Bangladesh is closely monitoring the situation and the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is maintaining regular contact with the Malaysian authorities. If necessary, the High Commission will provide the detained Bangladeshis with the required assistance.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that the Government of Bangladesh maintains a strict stance against all forms of terrorism, violent extremism, and militancy, and is ready to cooperate fully with Malaysia on this matter.
