According to reports, the fish were caught about 60 kilometers deep into the sea from the Kuakata coast on October 29. The trawler, named FB Safwan-3, set sail from Patharghata with 19 fishermen and returned with an abundant catch of Hilsa.
Trawler master Rubel said, “We were astonished as soon as we cast the nets. When we pulled them up, the entire deck filled with Hilsa. Eventually, we had to cut off some nets because there was no more space left. I’ve been fishing for 17 years, but I’ve never seen such a massive catch at once. By the grace of Allah, our luck has turned this time.”
Trawler owner Manik Mia added, “For the past few months, there had been almost no fish in the sea. The sale of Hilsa from this single trip will help us recover some of our previous losses.”
Local fish trader Mostafa Alam said, “In the last ten years, I haven’t seen so many Hilsa arrive at my market at once. After the fishing ban ended, the fishermen are returning with such big catches—it’s a joyous moment for all of us.”
Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, president of the Barguna District Trawler Owners Association, said, “Right after the 22-day fishing ban ended, the fishermen have been this fortunate. It’s a good sign. We hope for even better catches in the coming days.”
The Patharghata fish landing area is now in a festive mood. Fishermen are overjoyed after catching such a huge haul of Hilsa after a long time, and the entire local market is buzzing with talk of the remarkable catch.
