The arrestees are Debu Mallik, manager of former Vice Chairman of Jessore Sadar Upazila Parishad and Jubo League leader Anwar Hossain Bipul, and Nahid Islam, owner of the printing press. Police recovered several banners and promotional materials from the scene.
According to police, the detainees were printing misleading posters and banners in the name of organizing a protest march under the banner of the Jubo League. The banners reportedly contained slogans such as “Withdraw the false case against Sheikh Hasina” and “Stop the illegal ICT Act.” The name of fugitive Jubo League leader Anwar Hossain Bipul was mentioned as the organizer on the banners.
Kazi Babul, Investigation Officer of Jessore Kotwali Police Station, said, “Preliminary investigations revealed that there was a plan for sabotage under the guise of a protest. Acting on alert, we conducted a raid and arrested the two individuals. They have been charged under the Special Powers Act and sent to court on Thursday morning.”
Police suspect that some political activists, taking advantage of the current political unrest, are carrying out such activities from hiding through their followers. Police officer Babul also confirmed that a search operation is underway to locate the fugitive Anwar Hossain Bipul.
Meanwhile, local sources said that although the incident initially created tension in the area, the situation is now under control.
