Two leaders of Jatiya Jubo Shakti, Mehedi Hasan Farabi and Swaib Ahmed, have been temporarily relieved of their responsibilities following an incident in which journalists were threatened in Rajshahi. On Tuesday night (December 2), Asadur Rahman, Joint Secretary of the central office, announced the decision.

The organization stated that both leaders have been suspended from all duties due to serious organizational misconduct. They have been asked to appear in writing and in person within two days to explain why they should not be permanently dismissed. If the explanation is unsatisfactory, further action will be taken according to the rules.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at the introduction meeting of the newly formed district committee of NCIP at Rajshahi Tourism Motel. Some leaders complained that the new convener Saiful Islam is close to the ruling party. When journalists tried to talk to Saiful Islam, Swaib Ahmed entered the conference room and used abusive language, saying, “If this doesn’t stop now, I will lock you up.” Mehedi Hasan Farabi also confronted journalists repeatedly, trying to prevent them from speaking.

A video of the incident spread on social media, drawing widespread criticism. The Rajshahi Television Journalists Association, Bangladesh Photojournalist Association, and Rajshahi Editors Forum issued separate statements condemning the incident, calling it a direct threat to press freedom and anti-democratic behavior.

Journalist organizations demanded strict action against the accused. The central leadership of the organization said that a final decision would be announced soon after investigation and review.
