As competition in artificial intelligence intensifies, major tech companies are increasingly focusing on developing their own hardware. In this context, AI startup Anthropic is reportedly strengthening its plans to build its own AI chips, with potential collaboration discussions involving South Korea’s Samsung.
Reports suggest Anthropic is exploring multiple possibilities for in-house chip development. However, no final decision has been made regarding the chip’s use, architecture, or role in server infrastructure.
Anthropic stated that it will continue relying on chips from Google, Amazon, and Nvidia for its computing infrastructure and declined to comment in detail on possible Samsung partnerships.
Experts say the growing demand for AI computing power and limited supply of high-performance chips—especially Nvidia’s—are pushing companies to develop custom solutions.
Meanwhile, OpenAI recently announced its own inference chip in collaboration with Broadcom, highlighting the growing competition in AI hardware.
Google and Amazon have also long been developing custom AI processors for their cloud services.
Samsung is already a major semiconductor manufacturer, producing advanced chips for Nvidia and collaborating on AI infrastructure development.
Analysts believe that if Anthropic succeeds in developing its own chips, it could significantly reshape competition in the global AI hardware market.
