The nationwide “July 2024 mass movement” created month-long political tension, protests, and mass gatherings that led to widespread instability across the country, including Dhaka and other divisional cities.

The main demands of the movement included political reforms, establishment of democratic rights, accountability, and reduction of social and economic inequality. Participation from political parties, students, workers, and ordinary citizens expanded the scale of protests.

Major protests, sit-ins, and road blockades took place in Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and other cities, disrupting traffic and daily life.

Clashes and violent incidents were reported in multiple areas, resulting in deaths and hundreds of injuries, according to local sources and media reports. However, exact casualty figures vary and have not been officially confirmed in all cases.

Educational institutions experienced disruptions, administrative activities slowed, and businesses suffered losses.

Residents reported widespread anxiety and insecurity throughout July, significantly affecting normal life.

Analysts consider the July 2024 movement a significant chapter in the country’s political history with long-term impact.

Although the situation gradually normalized, the period remains a widely discussed and sensitive part of recent history.
