The 100-bed Upazila Health Complex in Char Fasson, serving nearly six lakh people, is facing severe pressure due to long-standing shortages of doctors and medical equipment.

Hospital sources say that although 42 medical officer posts are approved, only 16 doctors are currently working. Out of 10 specialist consultant posts, only two are filled, leaving patients deprived of specialized treatment.

Every day, more than 400–500 patients visit the outpatient department, and over 100 patients remain admitted. Emergency services are also under constant pressure. Patients from nearby Monpura island also depend on this hospital.

A four-month-old child’s father, Sojib Khan, said his child is hospitalized with measles but cannot receive proper specialist consultation. He also complained about poor toilet and drinking water facilities and is preparing to take the child to Dhaka for better treatment.

Due to lack of equipment, many tests are conducted outside the hospital, increasing cost and time burden for patients.

RMO Dr. Maklukur Rahman said doctors are trying their best but the shortage is severe. Upazila Health Officer Dr. Shovon Bosak also acknowledged the limitations.

Locals demand urgent recruitment of doctors and modern equipment to improve healthcare services.
