Child rescued after being left alone in restaurant on Dhaka–Chattogram highway in Cumilla; police rescue operation ongoing

An incident occurred in Cumilla where a two-year-old girl was mistakenly left behind after a foreign family finished breakfast at a restaurant beside the Dhaka–Chattogram highway. Police and restaurant authorities are jointly working to find her family while ensuring the child’s safety.

The incident took place on Saturday (June 27) morning at Jaitun Restaurant in Mostafapur area of Sadar South upazila.

Restaurant authorities said a foreign family of about 15 members arrived in two vehicles, had breakfast together, and spent some time chatting before leaving in a hurry. Later, staff noticed a small girl sitting alone inside the restaurant.

Restaurant owner Lutfur Rahman Ripon said the child is approximately two years old and cannot provide her name or family details. Police from Sadar South station were immediately informed. The child is currently safe under restaurant supervision.

CCTV footage shows the family accidentally forgot to take the child with them while leaving.

OC Mohammod Rakibul Islam said police reached the scene and efforts are ongoing to identify the family. Coordination is being made across highway points to trace them.

Local people have been requested to assist in returning the child to her family quickly.
