Four members of a Garo ethnic community family died after entering an abandoned well in Tangail’s Madhupur while trying to rescue a goat. The deceased include a father and his son. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning in Telki area of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Bablu Hadima (40), his son Neimar Mro (12), relative Gabriel (40), and neighbor Ratan Narkek (27).

According to local sources, a goat fell into a long-abandoned well in the morning. First, the child Neimar entered the well to rescue it. When he did not respond, his father Bablu entered. Later, Gabriel and Ratan also went inside one after another.

When none of them came out, panic spread in the area. Locals informed the fire service and police.

A rescue team later arrived and suspected that oxygen deficiency or toxic gas inside the well may have caused the deaths. After taking safety measures, a firefighter entered the well and recovered all four bodies.

The incident cast a shadow of grief over the entire area. Authorities said the bodies were handed over to police after the rescue operation.

Madhupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge AKM Fazlul Haque said legal procedures have begun and the overall incident is under investigation.
