High-level talks between the United States and Iran regarding a possible peace agreement are expected to take place in Switzerland, according to international media reports. However, ongoing Israeli attacks in Lebanon have created new uncertainty and pressure around the diplomatic initiative.

According to U.S. media reports, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have traveled to Switzerland for the discussions. Axios reported that Witkoff was en route while Kushner had already arrived.

The White House said that Vice President J.D. Vance’s planned visit has been postponed. He was originally scheduled to attend the talks as part of the delegation.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is also expected to travel to Switzerland, although the plan has not been finalized.

Diplomatic sources said Araghchi told a mediator country representative that a ceasefire in Lebanon would be crucial for progress in U.S.–Iran negotiations.

He is also expected to meet Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Tehran, according to Iranian media reports.

Analysts say ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, particularly the situation in Lebanon, could significantly influence the direction and progress of U.S.–Iran talks.
