Changes have been made to the security arrangements for BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. Three retired army officers have been added to his security team.
On Tuesday night, BNP released a statement regarding this on their verified Facebook page at 10:38 pm, signed by the party’s senior joint secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The statement mentioned that three important posts in Tarique Rahman’s security team have been appointed. Among them, Major (Retd.) Mohammad Shafawat Ullah has been appointed Director (Security), Major (Retd.) Moinul Hossain as Director (Protocol), and Captain (Retd.) Md. Gani Ul Azam as Director (Coordination).
After spending 17 years abroad, Tarique Rahman returned to the country on 25 December. Upon his return, the party’s special security force, “Chairperson Security Force (CSF),” was restructured, and the number of personnel was increased.
The newly structured CSF is led by Brigadier General (Retd.) AKM Shamsul Islam, actively providing security for Tarique Rahman in Dhaka. According to party sources, these appointments were made to ensure a more organized and effective security arrangement considering the current political situation.
