A Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis Member of Parliament, Saeed Uddin Ahmad (Hanjala), demanded an investigation and remedy after alleging that he was called a ‘terrorist MP’ upon entering the National Parliament. In the same session, independent MP Rumin Farhana demanded action regarding obscene remarks made about female MPs during a religious sermon.
During the session presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, they raised these issues through points of order.
Saeed Uddin Ahmad said that while entering Parliament on March 30 to attend the funeral of the Speaker’s spouse, someone called him a ‘terrorist MP’ from behind. He mentioned that the incident later became a topic of discussion on social media. He said such remarks undermine the dignity of Parliament and requested the Speaker to direct the Home Minister and relevant authorities to identify the culprits through CCTV footage.
The Speaker expressed regret over the incident and advised issuing a notice to consider the matter properly under special privileges of MPs.
Meanwhile, independent MP Rumin Farhana accused that during a religious sermon, an MP made obscene remarks about her and another female MP, which were inappropriate and condemnable. She demanded parliamentary intervention and justice. The Speaker noted that points of order cannot be based directly on newspaper reports, and formal notices are required for such matters.
Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni stated that a parliamentary committee exists for investigation and necessary measures can be taken if a proper notice is submitted. The Speaker further mentioned that Parliament has the authority to act on defamatory or indecent statements according to its rules.
