Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has announced that the flag of the July Mass Uprising will fly in every home in Gopalganj. He made this statement in a post on his verified Facebook page on Thursday afternoon, following an attack on the NCP's peaceful program in Gopalganj yesterday (Wednesday), which resulted in four deaths.
In his post, Nahid Islam stated, "Our position on Gopalganj was clearly articulated in yesterday's statement. Our commitment to Gopalganj is the same as our commitment to the whole of Bangladesh. We oppose political discrimination against the residents of Gopalganj."
He alleged that Gopalganj and the whole of Bangladesh would be "liberated from Mujibwadi terrorism and fascism." Nahid Islam claimed, "The Awami League has jeopardized the lives of people in Gopalganj for ages, tarnished the Liberation War, and committed injustice against followers of traditional religions. We have said that we will change this situation."
Regarding yesterday's attack, he said, "We did not go with a call for war. We had a pre-announced peaceful program. Mujibwadi terrorists launched an armed attack on us with the deliberate intention to kill, just as happened during the July Mass Uprising. The Awami League always wants to create a civil war situation."
Labeling the Awami League a "terrorist organization," Nahid Islam stated, "Even after such widespread killings by the Awami League in the mass uprising, many wanted to bring a 'refined Awami League' after August 5th. They should remember that the Awami League is no longer a political party; it is a terrorist organization."
He demanded justice for the July genocide and alleged that Chhatra League and Awami League workers have not been widely arrested, or if arrested, they are getting bail or escaping from police stations. Nahid Islam also accused the presence of "accomplices of fascism and corrupt officials" at various levels of the administration.
He further mentioned that despite administrative directives and morning sabotage, they entered Gopalganj after receiving security clearance and only held a roadside meeting, refraining from a procession. Nevertheless, Awami terrorists launched an armed attack on their way back.
Confirming the deaths of four people, Nahid Islam said, "We do not support or expect any extrajudicial killings. Terrorists must be dealt with through judicial processes." He demanded a fair investigation and the arrest of the terrorists, stating that the government and administration must take responsibility for the incident. In his opinion, this arrest operation must be carried out not only in Gopalganj but across the entire country.
Nahid Islam firmly declared, "We had formed a committee, we would go to Gopalganj. We went there and, swearing by the blood of the martyrs, we declare that we will not allow Mujibwad to stand on the soil of Gopalganj and Bangladesh." He announced his intention to return to Gopalganj, saying, "If we are alive, we will organize programs in every upazila and every village of Gopalganj. The flag of the July Mass Uprising will fly in every home in Gopalganj. Gopalganj will not belong to the Mujibwadis; it will belong to the Bangladesh-supporters."
He pledged to reclaim Gopalganj for martyrs Babu Molla and Rathin Biswas, stating, "We will not let this land belong to the Mujibwadis. Not an inch of Bangladesh will be Mujibwadi, Insha Allah." He expressed gratitude to everyone who took to the streets in protest of yesterday's attack.
