BNP leader Rashed Khan has said that if the National Citizen Party (NCP) fails to establish a clear and independent political identity, the expectations surrounding a new political force in the country could weaken.

He made the remarks in a post on his verified Facebook account on Saturday, where he shared his observations about NCP’s position, public engagement and future prospects in the current political environment.

Rashed Khan said the emergence of NCP was necessary in the country’s political landscape. However, he claimed that public interest and participation in the party’s recent July March programmes have declined compared to earlier expectations.

He mentioned that after the cocktail explosion incident during an NCP rally in Savar, there was not the expected level of public participation or protest in the capital. According to him, the type of public gatherings previously seen during political programmes has been absent in recent events.

In his Facebook post, Rashed Khan claimed that a section of the public has developed a perception that NCP is closely aligned with Jamaat-e-Islami. He said such a perception could affect the party’s image as a new political alternative.

He said that to fulfill the demand for a new style of politics, NCP must clearly present its own ideology, programmes and political position before the people. Otherwise, its acceptance as a new political force could come under question.

Rashed Khan further claimed that some members of NCP’s leadership were elected with Jamaat’s support. Therefore, he questioned whether the party would be able to maintain an independent political position in the future.

He also commented that declining public trust in emerging political forces could create new complexities in the country’s political equation. He stressed that political parties need transparent positions and effective roles to maintain public expectations.

However, Rashed Khan’s comments represent his personal political observations and opinions. No immediate response was available from the National Citizen Party regarding his remarks.
