The opposition party BNP has alleged that four workers of the National Citizens Party (NCP) were killed in attacks by supporters of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The BNP has strongly condemned and expressed outrage over these attacks, which they claim are a deliberate attempt to sabotage the democratic process.
A meeting of the BNP's standing committee was held at the party's central office in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Wednesday night at 8:30 PM. The details of this meeting, presided over by acting chairman Tarique Rahman, were released today, Thursday, in a statement.
In the statement published on the BNP's verified Facebook page, the government's failure to control the situation during the attack and clashes in Gopalganj was severely criticized. Party leaders warned that political parties must plan their programs with extreme caution, otherwise, opportunities will be created for anti-democratic forces.
The statement further said that the BNP believes a certain group is deliberately worsening the country's law and order situation to obstruct the path to democracy and disrupt the national parliamentary elections promised for next February. The BNP alleged that criminal activities such as mobocracy, murder, snatching, robbery, and extortion are on the rise. The BNP has called upon the interim government to take immediate action to improve the law and order situation.
At the meeting, the BNP strongly condemned the uncivilized statements and slogans of several political parties that unfairly implicated the BNP in the recent brutal murder of businessman Lal Chand in Old Dhaka. It was specifically mentioned that the politically uncivilized obscene remarks and slogans about BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, chairperson Khaleda Zia, and Tarique Rahman have angered the entire nation.
The BNP believes that such activities will not only spoil the political environment but also hinder the path to democracy and the process of national parliamentary elections. The BNP has urged all political parties to prioritize mutual respect and goodwill and refrain from such unpolitical activities.
Present at the meeting were BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Salahuddin Ahmed, Nazrul Islam Khan, Selima Rahman, and others.
