“I Stopped Sand Business, Now I Will Stop Illegal Hill Cutting,” Says Humam Quader

Chattogram-7 (Rangunia) lawmaker Humam Quader Chowdhury has announced strict measures against illegal hill cutting, saying no activity that destroys the environment will be allowed.

He made the statement while visiting areas affected by landslides in Rangunia municipality following heavy rainfall on Friday, July 10. During the visit, he spoke with affected families and distributed relief materials and financial assistance among them.

Humam Quader said, “I have stopped the sand business; now I will stop hill cutting as well. Illegal hill cutting will not be allowed under any circumstances. Effective measures will be taken to protect people’s safety and the environment.”

He said steps would be taken in coordination with the administration against environmentally harmful activities to protect lives and property in Rangunia. He also assured that efforts would continue to ensure rehabilitation and necessary assistance for families affected by landslides.

The lawmaker said, “Many people have suffered losses due to continuous heavy rainfall. It is our responsibility to stand beside them. Necessary assistance will be delivered to affected people through coordination between the government and administration.”

Rangunia Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Nazmul Hasan, local representatives, administrative officials, political leaders and prominent local residents were present during the visit.

It may be mentioned that continuous heavy rainfall over several days caused landslides in different areas of Rangunia, affecting several families. Relief and humanitarian activities are continuing through the upazila administration, local representatives and various social organizations.
