PNN News Desk | Noakhali:
The town of Maijdee in Noakhali is now reportedly under the control of a teenage gang known as the KTG Group. The gang has been linked to a series of criminal activities, including mugging, extortion, drug trafficking, robbery, land grabbing, and even the abduction of young women. As a result, local residents and business owners are living in fear, alleging that law enforcement has failed to take effective action.

According to intelligence sources and local residents, members of the KTG Group frequently gather in key areas of the city — including the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, the Superintendent of Police’s Office, the railway station, and the Shaheed Minar area. The gang has reportedly expanded its activities beyond drugs and extortion, engaging in violent clashes that have further heightened tensions across the city.

On the night of October 16, members of the KTG Group, armed with local weapons, carried out attacks in various parts of the city, chasing members of the Madhupur Group and disrupting public order. Despite a police presence, there was little resistance, forcing local shopkeepers to close their businesses out of fear.

The following day, October 17, violent clashes between two teenage gangs took place in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, leaving 7–8 people injured and one person critically attacked in an attempted murder. The injured were later hospitalized, with one reported to be in serious condition.

Police have since filed cases and arrested several individuals in connection with the incidents. However, locals allege that some gang members enjoy political protection, which encourages their continued criminal behavior.

Residents and traders say that the KTG gang’s growing influence has spread terror throughout the city. Street crime, mugging, and assault have become common, while police are accused of being ineffective in ensuring safety.

In response, Noakhali District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Faruk Ahmed stated, “Whether it’s a teenage gang or a major criminal group, no one will be spared. Police are actively working to restore order, and several arrests have already been made.”

However, based on the current situation in the city, it appears that stronger and more effective measures are urgently needed to restore law and order.
