U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly seeking China’s mediation to help end the Iran-related conflict in the Middle East. According to international media, he may raise the proposal during talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Thursday.
The report says the conflict between Israel and the United States with Iran has still not stabilized. Although a partial ceasefire was implemented a month ago, peace talks have not progressed, and tensions in the Middle East and global energy prices continue to rise.
The United States demands that Iran limit its nuclear program and reduce influence over key energy routes such as the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, on the other hand, demands war compensation, lifting of sanctions, and an end to military operations in various regions.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that since China maintains close relations with Iran and is a major buyer of Iranian oil, Beijing is being encouraged to play a role in the conflict.
Analysts say the meeting is important not only for Iran but also as part of broader U.S.–China trade and strategic competition. Washington has warned that helping Iran could damage bilateral relations.
Meanwhile, the Strait of Hormuz remains critically important for global oil transportation. Since the conflict began, risks in this route have increased, raising energy supply concerns and transportation costs.
Shipping tracking data shows that some tankers have recently passed through the strait, including oil vessels linked to Iraq and Japan. Analysts warn that if the war continues, this waterway could become even more strategic and dangerous.
The impact is already being felt in the global economy, particularly in oil, fertilizer, and petrochemical supply chains. Experts fear that inflation could rise further if the conflict is not resolved.
