Police attacked during raid in Tahirpur, 4 injured

Four police officers were injured after being attacked during an anti-drug and anti-gambling operation in Tahirpur, Sunamganj. Among the injured were one Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and three constables. Seven people have been arrested in connection with the attack.

The incident took place on Wednesday around 8:30 PM in Ujan Tahirpur village of the upazila. The injured police members include ASI Miran Hossain Molla and constables Badru Hossain, Mithu Mia, and Bhairab Das. They were later admitted to Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex.

Police said a team led by Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam conducted an operation against drugs and gambling in the area. During the raid, gambling materials and cash were seized from a local shop, and several people were detained.

While transporting the detainees to the police station, a group of people attacked the police team. The attackers beat the officers, escalating the situation. Later, additional police reached the spot, rescued the injured officers, and detained seven suspects.

The arrested individuals are Nur Amin, Sakibul Hasan, Alamgir Mia, Liton Mia, Oli Hossain, Ashraful, and Shafikul Islam. Another person named Abdul Barik has been made a fugitive accused. A case has been filed by the police.

Sunamganj Superintendent of Police ABM Zakir Hossain said strict legal action will be taken against those involved in attacking on-duty police officers.
