PNN Staff Report
Uncertainty about BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s health has affected the timing of her eldest son and acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s return to the country. According to party sources, if Khaleda Zia is not fit to be taken abroad, Tarique Rahman will return soon.

On Wednesday, two teams of specialist doctors from China and the UK arrived in Dhaka to assess Khaleda Zia’s health. Their evaluation will determine whether she can be taken abroad. The decision largely depends on their advice.

If the doctors recommend treatment abroad, Singapore is being considered as the closest option, and Tarique Rahman would accompany her. If not, he will return to the country promptly.

Tarique Rahman has been residing in London with his family since 2008 for medical treatment. In recent months, speculation about his return has circulated, but no official date has been announced.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the decision about taking Khaleda Zia abroad will depend on doctors’ advice. If her health does not require immediate foreign treatment, Tarique Rahman will return soon.

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed also expressed hope on Monday that Tarique Rahman will return shortly.

Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain confirmed that issuing a travel pass would take no more than a day. Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury assured that there is no security risk for anyone in the country, and the government is committed to protecting everyone.

Although Khaleda Zia’s condition has been stable in recent days, concern still remains. Her treatment plan and Tarique Rahman’s return will be clarified after today’s medical assessment.
