Although the official schedule for local government elections has not yet been announced, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is strengthening its organizational preparations.

Party sources say that since the elections are legally required to be non-partisan, no candidate will be officially endorsed at this stage. However, after the election schedule is announced, the party will support a single candidate based on local popularity, reality, and organizational acceptability.

According to BNP policymakers, information is being collected from grassroots levels regarding potential candidates for city corporations, municipalities, upazilas, and union parishads.

During Eid-ul-Azha, evaluations were made based on public engagement and organizational activity of potential candidates in various areas. The party aims to prioritize dedicated, clean-image, and popular leaders to minimize internal conflicts.

Senior leaders said that although preparations began after the national elections, no decisions will be made public before the Election Commission announces the official schedule. Since local government elections are non-partisan, party symbols will not be used.

Sources also indicate that elections for local government bodies may begin from September or October in phases, starting with union parishads, followed by municipalities, upazilas, district councils, and city corporations.

Party workers across the country have already begun informal campaigning, including posters, banners, and local development initiatives, presenting themselves as potential candidates.

BNP Whip Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu said the party has long been election-ready and will participate fully once the government announces the schedule.

Local leaders say multiple candidates in many areas make internal coordination important before official endorsements are given, and everyone is increasing grassroots engagement.

Political analysts believe that although local government elections are non-partisan in structure, the organizational strength and unity of major political parties will play a decisive role in the outcomes.
