Awami League leader Shah Alam attends mother’s funeral in handcuffs after parole release

In Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria, imprisoned banned Awami League leader Shah Alam Khandaker attended his mother’s funeral after being temporarily released on parole.

He was seen attending the janaza in handcuffs under police custody.

His mother, Halima Begum, died Monday night at age 75 due to illness.

The court granted five hours of parole for funeral attendance.

After the funeral, he was taken back to prison.

He said he could not be with his mother in her final moments, which was his greatest pain.
